Agfa Clack

1950's 120 film camera

Agfa Clack is a wonderfully simple medium-format camera manufactured in Germany between 1954 and 1965. Designed for straightforward everyday photography, it combines an unmistakable mid-century appearance with uncomplicated mechanical operation.

The camera uses readily available 120 roll film and produces eight large 6 × 9 cm negatives per roll. These large negatives can deliver an impressive level of detail while retaining the soft rendering, gentle contrast and characteristic edge fall-off associated with simple vintage cameras.

Focusing is controlled by selecting one of two distance zones. The Clack is equipped with a simple meniscus lens, a fixed instantaneous shutter speed of approximately 1/30 second and a Bulb setting for longer exposures. Its limited aperture selection keeps operation accessible, even for photographers with little experience using fully manual cameras.

The built-in optical viewfinder can be rotated, allowing the camera to be used in both portrait and landscape orientation. A yellow filter is also incorporated into the lens assembly and can be selected when using black-and-white film to improve tonal separation and darken blue skies.
